Notifications

As I look at the work I need to do in the keeping my time each day, one thing hangs me up just as much as my laptop.

Ding!

That sound was such a good idea-or so I thought. It first came in the form of TweetDeck. I learned way too late to set those notifications only for me.

Then the iPod. What fun!

Enter the smart phone, and finally our iPad.

Now I can hear of symphony of notifications, slightly staggered throughout the house-and they make my train of thought go wonky.

I’m like a dog who sees a squirrel.

I don’t want to go through the rest of my life distracted. I have made my office hours, now to keep them, really truly keep them, I need to get rid of those sounds that distract my every waking moment.

That email, tweet, or Facebook notification isn’t going anywhere. They will all be waiting for me when I come back to my office.

Until then, my family needs me.

Another step in making 2012 about being Focused: I turned off all of my notifications.

It feels good.
