Our grades for 2011-2012 will be: Pre-K, K, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 8th. *** We have made the decision to hold off High School one year for Christian. He was right on the cusp from the beginning, and when he asked to wait, we agreed. My planner~ Every school year I have ordered the same planner brand, and I am spoiled! You are on the ball! Glad that you have firmed up most of your plans! I have so much fun trying to find "just the right thing", and then trying to find a bargain on it too! If you have not checked out homeschoolclassifieds.com, you might look around there for some used curriculum bargains! :)

I'm such a planner, too! I love your list and agree: Penny Gardner's handwriting is a gem!
ReplyDeleteI also searched and searched and searched and found a dotted Italic font for FREE online. I use it to create my own copywork for my kids.
Just found your site and enjoyed looking around. We have similar tastes in curricula too : ) I haven't heard of the Penny Gardner handwriting, so I'm off to check that out.

ReplyDeleteI'm schooling 6 of our 7 children this year (not attempting Pre-K w/ the youngest) and they're in similar grades as yours: 1, 3,4,7,8,9. I, too, am a planner and love having everything in front of me. It's a slow process, but it makes the school year so much easier!

ReplyDeleteI was really commenting to ask...How do you decide? We are just now starting the homeschooling journey with our oldest of 3 who is 3 years old. We are starting Pre-K in Aug using a free (secular) curriculum I found that is FREE. Since I have yet to figure out how to sift through all the materials out there I chose to do my test run with free stuff.
So, any pointers on how you started out?
I am considering homeschooling for the first time. What book or books would you most highly recommend for someone on the fence and a bit petrified of jumping in and not sure of where to start? Thanks so much!!!

I was just wondering how come you stopped using the Life of Fred Math books? I am contemplating using them next year for my 5th and 8th grader. Is this not a good curriculum?

ReplyDeleteOk, thanks so much! I read some of the sample lesson to my now 7th grader tonight, she was on the 2nd pre algebra level. We could do it, but it was definitly going to require some thought, and fun! She uses the pre algebra teaching textbooks now, and she hates the cds and only uses the book. So instead of spending all that money for just the book next year, we are looking for an alternative. We think Life of Fred might work. =)
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of MOH 1 with my 5th grader, but was wondering what you do with your littles with MOH 2? Have they done MOH 1? Do they just in whereever you are or do you start over and play catch up with them? Next year I'd like to incorporate my K boy and 1st grade boy into History and science (apologia) but an unsure if I should start at the beginning or have them jump in where we are? Thanks!
