Thankfulness

I saw on Facebook this week that there was a challenge to spend the month of November being thankful. I know I am guilty at times of not being as grateful to God as I should be for my many blessings. I haven’t decided if I will make this a weekly or daily post yet, although I think I would prefer daily :D Since I am behind on the blogging about blessings idea anyway, I will do my first five here.

Day One, The Bible~

It is hard to believe that there are places in this world where the Word of God is not available for all. I don’t even know how many Bibles we own, but I know it is a lot! Of course your Bible doesn’t do you much good if you only use it for decoration. Read it daily and keep the dust off!

Day Two, The right to vote~

I was so saddened the one year we couldn’t vote. We moved from Pennsylvania back to West Virginia at the end of October, 2000. We didn’t know about absentee voting, and it was too late to register. We were happy with the turn-out, even if the results weren’t in until every hanging chad was counted! This week things went the way we prayed they would as well.

Day Three, My family~

I am so glad I didn’t wait to have a family. Some may think that only uneducated people would start a family at the young age of 18 3/4. I call it love. Since I have read the Bible through, I think I can safely say that motherhood, is a thing to be desired. I don’t need vacations or a large bank account to be happy. I have blessings filling every part of my heart and home, and a wonderful spouse to share it with.

Day Four, Homeschooling~

Although not everyone is supportive of the decision to homeschool, the people who really know us not only support us, but also see the wonderful changes in our family as the result of this wonderful blessing. Our family is closer, stronger and drawn more to God. Who could begrudge us those things? I only wish we had done it from the start. If you feel led to teach your children at home- don’t delay, you will not regret it!

Day Five, :D ~

To be fair, on Facebook I said I was thankful the President finally blamed something other than President Bush on the unemployment rate. This time he blamed the recession. I like President Bush, and I truly believe that history will be more kind to him than his treatment at the end of his Presidency. I think the current President has been in office long enough to quit blaming all of our current problems on the last guy.

It’s been a tough week for me, and I was glad to have the challenge of seeing how much I am blessed with amid the stress of life.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. [7] And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
