B90 Challenge Day One

I just finished Day One of the 90 Day Bible Reading Challenge over at Mom’s Toolbox. I changed my morning routine to exclude the internet until I was finished. The plan is to read in the morning when the house is quiet. Today I finished just as half of the kids were starting to wake up. The kitten thought my bookmark would be tasty, he was my biggest distraction!

I did have a few questions, and I will look them up later today. My original plan was to read along with a concordance or Study Bible, but Amy asked we just read. It makes sense. If we are reading this much a day, and get distracted researching one though, passage or issue, we may very well not get through our daily reading, and possibly never catch up.

I have 3 things written down that I want to look into further:

1. Genesis 3:14-19 The curses on the Serpent, Woman and Man.

2. Genesis 8:22 Which seems like if God promises the seasons will remain, Al Gore may have a fight on his hands for “global warming”..LOL.

3. Genesis 15:10 I had trouble with the “he’s” was God doing the cutting?

When are you doing your reading today?

*Post Study Updates*

1. I am thankful for commentaries provided by my sweet preacher husband. I wanted to look further into *why* this is prophesy of Christ, and not just the serpent wouldn’t be a highly regarded creature.

I copied the following from E-sword which has commentaries, although I am also reading Coffman Commentary on Genesis. It was just easier to copy and paste E-sword.

it shall bruise thy head; the head of a serpent creeping on the ground is easily crushed and bruised, of which it is sensible, and therefore it is careful to hide and cover it. In the mystical sense, "it", or "he, Hu", which is one of the names of God, Psa_102:27 and here of the Messiah, the eminent seed of the woman, should bruise the head of the old serpent the devil, that is, destroy him and all his principalities and powers, break and confound all his schemes, and ruin all his works, crush his whole empire, strip him of his authority and sovereignty, and particularly of his power over death, and his tyranny over the bodies and souls of men; all which was done by Christ, when he became incarnate and suffered and died, Heb_2:14.

2. Coffman says, This is not a promise that the established order will continue eternally, but that “as long as the earth itself exists,” that order will continue.

3. Verse 1 of Chapter 15 ~ …the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision..so the whole chapter is a vision, and in the vision Abram is the “he” cutting.
