The books of Genesis and Exodus are two of my favorites. So far I have not felt like this reading schedule is a burden, and usually have to make myself not read ahead. I want to share some thoughts from my last two days of reading.
Genesis 29:11 Then Jacob kissed Rachel and wept aloud. He was just where he was supposed to be. Hey, I am a romantic after all!
Gen 31:34 Now Rachel had taken the household gods and put them in the camel's saddle and sat on them. Laban felt all about the tent, but did not find them. Why in the world did Rachel do that? I have read some commentaries that suggest this was evidence of a falling away from the true God, I still scratch my head on this one.
Gen 32:24 And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day.
Gen 32:25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him.
Gen 32:26 Then he said, "Let me go, for the day has broken." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."
Gen 32:27 And he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob."
Gen 32:28 Then he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed." I really can’t grasp this. Some scholars say it was an angel, others say it was Jesus. Some say it was a vision and didn’t really happen. Coffman says in his commentary of Genesis that “He (Jacob) was defeated and powerless to continue, but he clung to God and would not let go till he received the blessing.”
Gen 38:24 About three months later Judah was told, "Tamar your daughter-in-law has been immoral. Moreover, she is pregnant by immorality." And Judah said, "Bring her out, and let her be burned." This one cracks me up every time! Talk about foot-in-mouth!
Gen 44:5 “Is it not from this that my lord drinks, and by this that he practices divination? You have done evil in doing this." Was Joseph practicing divination? Some say yes, some maybe, some no. I read that Joseph may have been equipped with such things because of his dreams.
And the last passages, which tug at my heart the most.
Gen 47:7 Then Joseph brought in Jacob his father and stood him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
Gen 47:8 And Pharaoh said to Jacob, "How many are the days of the years of your life?"
Gen 47:9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my sojourning are 130 years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their sojourning."
First of all Jacob blessed Pharaoh! Second~ Jacob fully understood that he was just passing through, and he was on his way home. I just love reading that verse!
Tomorrow starts Exodus. I am just loving this study!
Sounds like you're off to a great start! Keep up the good work!

surprise surprise - I'm already falling behind! though I'm slowly catching up {I did a lot of reading at work on this especially slow weekend} and knew there would be days that would happen - in the back of my mind, for me, it's always been the "100 day challenge". ha!
