Life doesn’t run smoothly unless you have a plan. Trust me. I have been back and forth with a schedule- keeping a strict one, pretending like there is none, and anywhere in between.
Why do I loathe what works so well??
I’m like a little kid, and the schedule is my parent.
You can’t tell me what to do!
I have gotten really good with incorporating our school schedule, and sticking to it. I leave all social media downstairs and don’t return to it until school is over. After school, I need a break! It is getting back in the swing of things that is hard after that point.
I have come up with a plan that supplements our “What Comes Next” schedule that hangs in the classroom and kitchen. I am a bit scatterbrained, and need to be told what I am supposed to be doing. I had made “The Box” several months ago, but that only worked until a child knocked the box over, and all of my cards spilled out.
I never went back.
What was my solution? {albeit forever in the making?}
The index card chore list! It has all of the highlights of the “What Comes Next” chart with the added help of portability!
Now I can take my schedule with me. I’ll show you what I did.
First I printed off index cards, and laminated them. {I love to laminate!}
I then cut them out, and used one edge of my 3-hole punch to make a hole in each.
I then secured them {in order of course} with one of these ring thingy-ma-jigs.
One thing I should do, but seem to forget-review the day ahead.
I even made a short cheat card for last minute chore ideas. I somehow never know what to ask the kids to do in the moment.
My portable schedule will travel with me, and return to the “What’s Next” chart when the day is over. It was free to make, and fun to put together.
What works for your family?
