Before Five In A Row

We love books at the Kelley house. I had been very curious about Five In A Row, and when I saw a chance to review Before Five In A Row, I was excited. I was so happy to get it in the mail!

Before Five In A Row is actually divided into two sections. Part One is the stories, and activities. Part Two is full of creative ideas for learning readiness.

I immediately looked though the title, and went online to order several of the books. Our local library was unfortunate enough not to have any of the books I was looking for. (I was however, able to find them easily in paperback on Amazon.) When the books arrived I cuddled up with Leah, 3, to read.

What I liked-

First of all, let me tell you that all of the books were delightful. Our favorite of the ones we ordered was The Big Green Pocketbook.

I thought Before Five In A Row could just be a list to help find wholesome books at the library to enjoy with your little one. The night we read Caps For Sale we didn’t even have Before Five In A Row with us in the room.

The next day I sat down with the curriculum, and looked at what was suggested for further learning. I thought I had done a pretty good job on my own of finding little things to talk about while reading with Leah. What more could this charming book offer?

Boy was I wrong!

Before Five In A Row is filled with simple, yet effective ways to make each lovely story a learning experience. I love the ideas, and I love, love, love- the integration of Bible verses! I may have been able to come up with a few of these ideas, but most of them I would have never even thought of.

Part Two, is full of exactly what the title says, creative ideas for learning readiness.

There are ideas for coordination, what to do with a ball, what to do at the store, and much more. The second section half of the book is like curriculum for life, while the first is curriculum with books.

To only use this curriculum as a book list would be missing out on a huge blessing. We are enjoying the books themselves, and are learning even more with the activities.

What I didn’t like-

The book can only be purchased from one source, and the price on the back of the book does not match the price that it is being sold for.

How to purchase-

Before Five In A Row can be purchased exclusively at Rainbow Resource, and costs $35.00. You can also buy all of the books that go with the curriculum as well on the Rainbow Resource website, or you can find them at your local library.
