The Homeschool Mother’s Journal–Week 3

In my life this week...We are celebrating two birthdays, Hannah turned 11 yesterday, and Leah is 3 today. We went to Steak N Shake last night for milkshakes and burgers. Tonight we will have have cupcakes and tomorrow is the party.

In our homeschool this week...We had a short week. We always take off birthdays here for school, so we only had a 3 day week.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...Five of the kids had eye doctor appointments this week. Tomorrow we will be seeing some family that is coming in for the party.

My favorite thing this week was...Hands down, husband of the year moment, when my hubby emptied his piggy bank and bought my Relevant ticket!

What's working/not working for us...I need to arrange the class books again. Since I have switched so much curriculum lately things aren’t in their spots yet.

MUS seems to be working so far =) and I was able to sell my Teaching Textbooks!

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have... Who else homeschools year-round? We recently went back to a 4 day weekly, year-round schedule. I love how flexible homeschooling is!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...

“Only the Word is the answer to rightly reading the world, because The Word has nail-scarred hands that cup our face close, wipe away the tears running down, has eyes to look deep into our brimming ache, and whisper, “I know. I know.” Ann Voskamp

  1. Happy Birthday to your kids! What a beautiful pic of your daughter, she looks like she was enjoying her bday!

I love the flexibility of homeschooling too. I couldn't homeschool year-round though, I love my summers off as much as the kids do! LOL!

  3. We're going to go to a 3 day school week this summer. We'll school on days Daddy works so that when he's off, we can all enjoy summer together. My 9YO in particular doesn't like taking an entire summer off.

  5. hello. just visiting from Sue's.
We homeschool three months on - one month off, year round. I find the shorter more frequent break is a must (mostly for me), and three months in a row off would be just crazy for us. But we don't really ever stop. We just cut away from the "class room" set up we have and move to more hands on learning tools and activities.
It works for us, but everyone is different.
Who knows, even WE might be different in a couple of years and do it all a new way. :)

    Blessings and thanks for sharing!

  6. Hi Sam,

We also school year round. It really works great for us! We usually work 4 days, with only art and catch up on Fridays. Homeschooling is so flexible. It is nice to work around special days and Holidays. Especially Birthdays! I am writing down your quote and placing it in a very special place. It is beautiful! Have a wonderful weekend.

  8. Sounds like a fun birthday weekend!

Doing school 4 days a week all year sounds kind of nice to me, but I have a STRONG feeling that my teenagers would have much different opinion! :)

    Have a great weekend!

  9. We homeschool year round as well. I do take breaks around the year close to holidays or when I'm feeling like we all need a break for a bit. There are so many learning opportunities available only during the summer in Minnesota...I wouldn't want those to pass my daughters by.

  10. I am wanting to sell my Teaching Textbooks too. They are just no longer working for us, but I am not sure what I am going to use for Algebra I and Algebra II next year.
We have schooled 10 months out of the year with multiple days off throughout and 2 months off in the summer. But, we may not finish our "school year" until July this year! High school takes more time than elementary school.....I am wanting to go to school year round again, but I do need a chunk of time to plan for the next year.
    Have a good day!

  13. Looks like a happy birthday was had by all! It has been so long since I've been to Steak 'n Shake! I used to get those orange vanilla cream milkshakes! Yum! And that was so sweet of your husband! Maybe one of these years I'll make it to Relevant :)
