Simplifying The Master Closet

I clean and purge our closet regularly. It was time again =) I didn’t get a chance to get a shot before my husband pulled out all of his things. This shot does show his suits still in.

Before

We share our closet with the two little ones that still sleep in our room. We have bedrooms for them- we just like them close, as all of the other bedrooms are upstairs. It also needs to be the temporary home of clothes that have grown too small and can be passed on. And it HAS been the home of a small music store.

I like for the short side to be free of clothes. Fail.

Our closet is also home to games. Some were out at the time of this shot.

After

Guitars and amp gone. Stored clothes sorted into sell and giveaway.

In case you noticed, and were wondering- everyone in our home has their own color of clothes hanger. We also keep white for backup. The pesky white ones are also out. I just didn’t have the energy for a pic. My clothes are also always organized left to right as follows: jeans short sleeved shirts, long sleeved shirts, skirts and dress pants, dress shirts and dresses. Same for Leah.

My husband’s are a little differently arranged. Partly because he doesn’t wear skirts and partly because he is a preacher, and his off duty clothes are way in the back.

Sweet empty floor. The blue tub will stay to collect hand me downs we want to hang on to.

Games in order according to size. That is my brand of OCD.

And I don’t have a lot of shoes, but they all live here, except my boots. And my favorite shoes, Tubes, which were on my feet at the time.

I hope to scratch off one more area this week. We’ll see- we have to go to TN to get Rick’s mom this weekend, and she will be with us a week.

My failed goal so far is our schedule. Things have been a little nutty. We have stuck to it…1% of the time. {sigh} I am however finished selecting Bible verses for our family memorization. We will be working through Proverbs. I have selected 1:7, 1:8, 1:22 and 2:6 to work on for the next few weeks, one at a time. We do them for a week, unless we nail them sooner. We learned this week’s verse fast and are moving on tonight.

2 out of 3 isn’t bad- right?

I am really enjoying 3 new goals each month with this challenge! If you haven’t joined in yet, consider next month, or better yet- jump in now!

  3. Good job!!! I love before and after projects. They are so motivating.
Except today. LOL Ugh, it has been a rough week. And now my husband is home sick and my "surprise" birthday party is supposed to be tomorrow night. We may have to cancel if he doesn't get better. :(

  4. Great job! So neat and tidy!

I share my big closet with Christian (oldest son), and it is also our linen closet. It is needing a serious purge, but I am going to wait until yard sale time, because I am running out of places to stash stuff that needs to be sold! :)

  6. Sam,
Awesome! I notice that you don't have alot of clothes...I don't either. I hate hanging onto anything that I won't use. And that goes for my whole house and not just my closet! HOw do you handle laundry for a large family? I am always behind and HATE putting clothes away! Wish we lived closer to each other!

  7. Thanks guys :)
    Nicki,
Yeah, I don't care about having a lot of clothes! I like to be simple, and I am taking that even further these days, and I have never cared about the latest "thing".
As for your question, I have two rolling hamper systems in the laundry room and I sort them into six categories- towels, socks, girls, boys, jeans and dress clothes. I try to do a load or two at the least daily. We hang everything except pj's and undies here, so as soon as it comes out of the dryer, I hang it on that person's hanger and hang it in my doorway. I put the other stuff in a stack per person and when it is time to take up the kids clothes everyone is responsible for their own stuff. They also bring down empty hangers.

  8. It looks awesome : ) You are very organized. I knew that I needed to fix ours when I couldn't find a pair of pants or a shirt I had JUST put away the week before!

  12. Still waiting on you to come do mine! By the way, what happened to the guitar and amp????

  13. I am jealous of that closet! I need to get mine that orderly. I'm the same on my goals. Two are going great and the other 1% of the time sums it up pretty well.

  15. Great job with your goals...even the one that was 1% accomplished. Schedules are difficult - sometimes not having a regimented schedule is a schedule in and of itself! You're doing an awesome job this month!

  16. What a great job you did! I cleaned out the clothes from mine and david's closets. Still have shoes, old ties (from almost 15 years ago- yikes!) and odds and ends left.

  17. It must be a month of reorganization... two of my three goals are organizational based!

I have the same exact shoe hanger for my shoes hanging on the back of my closet door, too! How funny. Great job!
