The Homeschool Mother’s Journal–Week 1

So I just found this great blog. I wish I had found it sooner!

I am bad at journaling. HSMJgraphic

I really like blogging.

I think this a wonderful idea!

In my life this week...

It was our 14th wedding anniversary on Monday!

In our homeschool this week...

We took a break week, unexpectedly.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

We went to Rod and Staff, and spent time with church family.

My favorite thing this week was...

The blessing of the flexibility of homeschool. We were able to drop everything and do for others. I had never even thought about it before, but when it happened, I was so grateful. there was a sudden death in our church family, not only did it allow me to be a help, but my children were able to be a comfort to their friends.

What's working/not working for us...

We are in the process of moving from Eclectic to Classical in our schooling. I have poured over books, blogs and web pages looking for what will work for us. We are changing some things now, and will make the full switch with the Fall school year.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

I am wondering if I will ever feel like I have everything under control and covered. I don’t want to run to the next thing that promises to be the crown jewel of home education. I want to work well with what I have, and pray for wisdom if we need change.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21

  1. Hey there!

I used to feel like I was missing something in our curriculum all the time too! Now I have found things that work with the kids well and with me too. Once you find those items, you will know and just not go anywhere else. I am worried about adding more kids to my schedule in the next few years is all now. HAHA

If your kids are learning and advancing, I'd say you have a pretty good grip on things. :)

    Take care!

  2. The first sentence in your thoughts made me smile! Can we REALLY get it all under control? Find me a mom (esp. a homeschool mom) that can and I'll follow her to the ends of the earth!

  3. Kela,
That was my thoughts as well. In my homeschool journey I've found that God keeps pressing me to release the control to Him and follow Him. Just when I think I'm in control and balancing everything He will pull the rug out from under my feet to remind me where my strength comes from.

    Samantha,
Just a reminder and encouragement that God will fill in for our inadequacies. We can't teach our children everything but we can teach them how to learn and to enjoy learning.
I'm interested to see how your switch from Eclectic to Classical goes. We are very eclectic, but I did read Teaching The Trivium not too long ago and really liked their approach to classical with a Christian emphasis. The tips they laid out seemed more realistic and doable for our family than those in The Well Trained Mind.

  8. Great post :) We have been gradually moving from Ecclectic to Classical......right now I am calling us "Ecclectic Classical." LOL Most of what I am doing with my little guy is Classical, with a couple of exceptions. It works for us!

  9. Great thoughts! I am also one who questions my curriculum from time to time. We actually made a switch after Christmas break to a classical style curriculum. We love it! Although it has been tough switching mid year, it has also been a blessing. My kids really like and are engaging more. I am following from the homeschool journal. Have a great weekend!
