Simplifying- The Living Room

Before~

DSC_0950

My search for curriculum has left my desk in chaos.

DSC_0952

This shot says it all!

DSC_0953

So sad. I do this a few times a year, and have been searching for an in drawer solution…

DSC_0954

Not bad, but not useful.

DSC_0955

The lineup of stuff.

DSC_0957

After~

DSC_0958

My desk is glowing.

DSC_0962

One of my fave cheap decorating ideas.

DSC_0965

Books to read.

DSC_0967

Pared down my magazines.

DSC_0971

Free pen cup. I usually “need” organization stuff when I purge. This time I refused to buy anything. One of my favorite things, this bowl, has been inside a drawer. It holds my cell and iPod perfectly. I have my lens cap in there while I shoot.

DSC_0972

My monthly bills file, and place to file recipe and homeschool ideas.

DSC_0976

Also free- never used containers. My office supply drawer.

DSC_0978

My letter drawer. Address book, cards, stationary and stamps live here.

DSC_0979

One of these boxes (from my closet) holds cards and photos from special people, the other has all of my extra camera gear.

Before~

Yep. Junk.

After~

DSC_0987

A couple books that don’t look so nice in the bookcase.

DSC_0986

My Bible, B90Days notebook and sermon note-taking notebook.

I forgot the before…my workout books and Beachbody workouts. Some Wii gear.

What I did in addition to the purge:

Dusted top to bottom.

Washed ceiling fan blades and housing.

Scrubbed baseboards.

Wiped down doorways.

Cleaned under couches.

Cleaned leather couches.

Dusted the whole room.

Washed blinds.

Cleaned windows inside and outside.

Vacuumed out the vents.

Vacuumed.

Cleaned the dining room of purge disaster.

What did you do today? Now to eat dinner, make spaghetti sauce and hopefully do my Bible reading!

*update*

I didn’t have a green pepper for sauce, so instead made 2 meatloaves, pepper steak, 3 days worth of veggie beef soup and the rest of the veggies are chopped for the sauce on Monday. And, I cleaned the kitchen.

  7. Sam, I also have been refusing to buy anything. My motto is "Use What You Have!" Good for you! I have been comparing my organizational skills to what I thought yours were. I always came up lacking. Now, I feel more normal! HA! Thanks, and oh, everything looks fantastic!

  10. Sam,
I just posted on Mom's Toolbox my need for prayer right now. I'm behind in my B90 reading, Dave's work is seasonal and we are being STRETCHED right now, and I am struggling with whether or not to pull Brendan right now from Kindergarten (I posted more details a few days ago on my blog). You know my circumstances. I would SO appreciate your prayers right now, Sam.
    Thanks,
    Nicki

  11. AWESOME!!!! You have been BIZZY! ;) I love how you utilize unused containers for organizational tools. I do the same thing. It's too easy to procrastinate by shopping for plastic bins. LOL! Love your living room, too! Looks so cozy and inviting!!
