The Homeschool Mother’s Journal–Week 2

In my life this week... I have had a pretty good week. I have been working on goals, and have so enjoyed having my blog re-do! I also really appreciate that others seem to like it as much as I do!

Rick and I stayed up WAY TOO LATE to watch Inception together last night. We haven’t watched a movie together in FOREVER, we had a free rental from Redbox.

In our homeschool this week... We switched back to a 4 day schedule for yeaDSC_1424r-round homeschooling. I ordered a bazillion levels of Math-U-See, after researching Math for a week or more. It was actually only 5, but the bill felt like a bazillion! We haven’t actually done the workbooks yet, but the kids fought over who would watch their video first! They sat mesmerized! I will be posting how it is working so far for us on Wednesday.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...Just been to church, the library, WalMart and Staples. We are really homebodies here, so that isn’t much of a surprise. Oh wait- we also did History and Science at the Chiropractor yesterday!

My favorite thing this week was...My new blog design! I have a button! It just makes me SMILE.

What's working/not working for us...We have also switched our Grammar over to Rod and Staff for the older kids and Language Lessons 1 & 2 for the younger ones. I decided not to wait for next year.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...If you, or anyone else you know would be interested in a VERY GENTLY, like new set of Teaching Textbooks 5 or 7 for $100.00 each PPD (they are $150.00) PLEASE send them my way! I really like TT, but our kids need mastery based math, so we moved one to Math-U-See. Other than needing the mastery approach, we would have stuck to TT forever!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...

“Calm. Haste makes waste. Life is not an emergency. Life is brief and it is fleeting but it is not an emergency.” Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts (emphasis mine.)

"O LORD, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!” Psalm 39:4

  2. I really love your design too!! I am preparing also for next year...but if we are moving within this year...it just might be smarter to go ahead and keep on going...just so that I don't get behind while we move internationally. Thanks for suggestions, and I really like MUS also--so I hope you all have {FUN} with it! ;)
    Take care!

  3. I love your new blog design! It is so cute. I love the button. That is on my list of things to do. I can't wait to see how you like Math U See. It is so fun to get all the books in the mail. I feel like it is my birthday when I order something new. We use Intermediate Language Lesson for my 5th grader and really like it. Hope it all works out. Have a great weekend!

  6. Corey and I started to watch Inception late at night a few weeks ago, but I was tired, and my brain just couldn't wrap itself around the plot! I gave up on it, and fell asleep! :) Everyone says that it is good though.

Still wanting to get 1000 Gifts. I'm reminded 1000 times each day (by everyone in blog land) that I am the only one that hasn't read it yet! :)

  7. Love, love, love your new design! It looks great! Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday :-). You don't happen to have TT for grade 8, do you? I've got a ton of MUS, but my 7th grader has decided that she doesn't like it anymore & she isn't getting the concepts, so I'm thinking about trying TT for her for next year.

    Thanks

  9. Well- if he likes worksheets, and does well with spiral, have you tried Horizons? Math U See does have worksheets, but also incorporates the videos and the blocks. I think that is what I am most excited about, maybe I will be a math whiz too!

  12. Great blog design and button! I also need to make myself a button. I keep putting that off.

We are a Math-U-See family. I switched my eldest over to it about 7 years ago, and my younger children haven't known anything else! We love using it, and the newest materials are wonderful. The first big revision was great, but after that I didn't think they would be able to improve any more on their program. I was wrong.

Sounds like you had a great week--new schoolbooks are always fun. I think you'll enjoy Math-U-See. :)
