So reading this-
has lead us to trekking through the winding roads of Eastern Kentucky to hunt down the Rod and Staff bookstore for these-
Somehow the nice lady on the phone convinced me we were close enough to them to make the drive and be sure which level we wanted. They even have some 50% off books you can only buy in-store.
She did not warn me about the road.
When dearest husband decided windy road + book = possible puke, I pulled over.
And saw this-
The back one is hard to see, but says “woman”, the closest says “man”.
How about “neither”?
The road was still windy, the wind was really blustery, but the views got more and more beautiful.
I don’t know of many things as beautiful as the sun streaming through clouds. Heavenly.
After 1,000,000 death curves, we reached our destination-
The ladies working there were quiet, and friendly. I found several grammar books 50% off, even though they were not for this coming year. A deal is a deal, right? The kids kept pretty quiet, except when I tried to keep Leah from running down and aisle, and tripped her instead…I was happy to be wearing a skirt today, I think I would have felt weird in pants there.
The weather changed, the winds had brought in a new system. It was colder and darker. We were being followed by locals, who I am sure would not find us stopping in the middle of the road humorous, and only got a couple shots on the way home.
I love barns with these panels. I didn’t see many through the Mennonite countryside, but I really loved this one.
In the end, not a single person puked, and we had a nice drive for our 14th wedding anniversary.
Head on over to Darcy’s and see what everyone else is shooting.
Oh Samantha! How beautiful. I dream of taking countryside photos like that. We live in a prime locations for it (Carolinas).
ReplyDeleteI can imagine the peace of the "primitive".
I'm a little confused...the locals were following you?
I changed the wording do you would not think we were being stalked!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate for you to be able to go to the Rod and Staff facility!! I am in SC and would really love to be able to go there one of these days!! Congratulations on your Anniversary.
ReplyDeletePretty pictures, Sam! What do you think of the Rod and Staff texts? I got the sample curriculum books that I told you about....I like the style, but do they seem a little advanced for the grade level? I couldn't tell since I am looking at what my kids would be doing NEXT year!
ReplyDeleteHow Beautiful,I love taking drives throught the hills and the Amish area.I especially love Kentucky!!!!!What a nice family trip.
ReplyDeleteNicki- I did take a step down, as it is advanced and we have been using a more gentle approach. I kept the 3rd for my 3rd grader, 6th will use 5th, and 9th will use 7th- which I read was really college level. HTH
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by mine as well...I think we are going to go with 6quivers when this one is finally here ;) I think you know but I came via your link on the R&S group.
ReplyDeleteWhen I didn't recognize the blog- I figured :D Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're not like your mother and actually remember the camera on your many adventures! Just love looking at the wonderful countryside and the old barns and buildings!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! It looks much more spring like than here in Michigan! I can't wait to see the grass again.... : )
ReplyDeleteHi Samantha, Thank you for stopping by my blog today and thank you for your sweet comment! After taking a look at your photos.. I have still a long way to go in terms of photography. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures and the deals!!!!
ReplyDeleteDenise- It felt like spring!
ReplyDeleteChantale- Your photos were beautiful!
Christine- Yes, the DEALS!! :D
This would be a wonderful addition to Barn Charm if you want to join in, we'd love to have ya! =)
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots! =)
Wow, many gorgeous country shots here!
ReplyDeleteWe sure have some pretty countryside in America. And you did a great job capturing some of them!
ReplyDeleteLove these shots. I love old building and barns. The outhouse shot reminds of me of when I got married. We got married in an old white country church and there were two white outhouses out back. Glad I stopped by here!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in, I was hoping you would! =)
ReplyDeleteI don't know what's wrong w/ the linky, it was messing up last night, too, so I'll add your link when it finally decides to straighten up & act right! LoL!

Ok, I think the linky is working, now, & I have your entry linked up! YaY! =)
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos and looks like a lovely peaceful drive! We have purchased some books on child training, readers and English 2 from R&S and are very pleased.
ReplyDeleteLove the red barn pic!
ReplyDeleteLove that last barn with the quilt block...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photographic story. Yeah, those "little houses" might have made me want to wait as well.
ReplyDeleteThe store looks just like a local library here a few towns over.
Barn Quilts are making their way across the country but I have not seen any around here.
How fun! I used several Rod and Staff books for my children 20 years ago when we used to homeschool. Now some of my grandchildren are homeschooled and they have some as well. What a treat to hear "the rest of the story." Thank you for a lovely visit.
ReplyDeleteOK - I was just about to leave a comment on your Homeschool Mother's Journal Post and I took a bunny trail to this post instead.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your pictures! What a fun (non-puking) adventure you went on, just to get some homeschool books!!! :)
I'd have to agree with you on the "neither". Outhouses are just wrong.
