Scripture~ “And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the LORD had done for Israel.”
“And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel.” Judges 2:7, 2:10
Observation~ It appears from my reading the above verse that it only took one generation for the people to fall away from the Lord.
Application~ If the next generation is to know and love our God, and obey Him, it is up to us to teach them that. That preservation is on my shoulders. I cannot rely on Bible class teachers to fill my children spiritually. If I fill them, they can fill the next, and so on. One of mine, and many other homeschooling families’ favorite verses is this one from Deuteronomy:
“You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Deuteronomy 11:19
I want to fill my children with knowledge and boldness, so that when they have to venture out into this world filled with disobedience, they will be ready for that battle. For now, I teach.
Prayer~ Lord, please be with me and my family. Help us to never follow the ways of this world, and fall into the path of disobedience and unfaithfulness. I pray that I provide the right example that leads all of my children to obey You. I pray heavenly Father that they would all obey the call to be buried in baptism, and that they all marry Christian spouses. Let us never forget what Your Son did for each of us.
I am now following you, and shared your blog on facebook. Could you please do the same for me?

ReplyDeleteYes! So many people think that one hour (or less) of Sunday School a week will take care of their children's faith. It's scary to think how quickly a people (even God's special people) can fall away from God. Great post!
