Blogging Through The Gospels, Matthew 13:1-35

Faith Like a Seed

Scripture:

“He put another parable before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches." ”  Matthew 13:31-32

Observation:

Barnes’ Notes says that the mustard we see in our climate is not the same as what Jesus speaks of. “It was several years before it bore fruit and became properly a tree.”

Application:

We as Christians, are years in growth before we reach our full potential.

I know that I am much more sensitive to things of this world than I was even a few years ago. As I grow, more things I see as Sin. Television shows get narrowed down, movies are rarely seen, music lyrics that once were sung along to get turned off.

We should always be growing, and maturing. We should become a safe place where those in the world can come and take refuge in our branches.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, help me always to move closer to You in my walk, and never towards the world. I pray that Your Word will always convict me of things I need to change, and that I will acknowledge them, and do Your Will. Help me to die to self more each day. Help me to be a light for others that do not yet know You. Help my seed of faith grow into a towering tree. Amen
