Blogging Through The Gospels Matthew 5

Scripture:

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Observation:

I have heard it said recently that our walk doesn’t matter. Once saved, always saved, and there is nothing we can do to change that. I don’t read that in the Scripture. So much is said about our walk while on this Earth, and the consequences if we don’t live as Christ tells us to. In today’s reading-

“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.” Matthew 5:29-30

Christ continues by not relaxing the law, but quite the opposite-

"It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.'
But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,”
  Matthew 5:31-34

Application:

Christ’s blood will cover my sins. Christ also has clearly revealed to me in Scripture how I should live as a Christian, and I should daily strive to better live this example. All men sin, but there is a difference between being a sinful man and known continued sin I refuse to turn from-

“For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,” Hebrews 10:26

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, be with me daily as I walk this Earth. Help me to always choose right, and to be in Your Word constantly to see more things I can change, to be more like You. Remind me of my light, and the joy it brings. Let me not forget the darkness, and the place you can not reside. May my light shine a path, so that others will leave the darkness and look to You. Amen
